LIABILITY/CIVIL:  Provides relative to liability associated with parades
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 9:2796(C) and to repeal R.S. 9:2796.1, relative to the limitation of liability for
3 loss connected with parades, festivities, fairs, and festivals; to provide for liability
4 associated with St. Patrick's Day and other ethnic parades; and to provide for related
5 matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 9:2796(C) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 
8 ยง2796.  Limitation of liability for loss connected with Mardi Gras and other parades,
9	and festivities;, fair and festival parades fairs, and festivals
10	*          *          *
11	C.  The provisions of this Section shall apply also to St. Patrick's Day parades
12 or any other ethnic parade.
13 Section 2.  R.S. 9:2796.1 is hereby repealed in its entirety.

Abstract:  Provides relative to liability associated with parades, festivities, fairs, and
festivals. 
Present law (R.S. 9:2796(A)) provides a limitation of liability for Mardi Gras krewes and
organizations and traditional Courir de Mardi Gras, or any member thereof, and nonprofit

organizations which sponsor fairs or festivals that present parades or courirs for any loss or
damage caused by any member thereof in conjunction with the parade or courir unless the
loss or damage was caused by the deliberate and wanton act or gross negligence of the krewe
or organization or member thereof.
Proposed law retains present law and adds provisions of present law (R.S. 9:2796.1) relative
to St. Patrick's Day parades to proposed law (R.S. 9:2796(C)).
Present law (R.S. 9:2796.1) provides that no person shall have a cause of action against any
organization which presents St. Patrick's Day parades or other street parades connected with
any ethnic celebration.
Proposed law repeals present law.
