COURTS/COURT REPORTERS:  Provides relative to transcription fees charged by court
reporters in the Thirty-Sixth Judicial District
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 13:961(F)(1)(o), relative to transcription fees for the Thirty-Sixth
3 Judicial District; to authorize a change in transcription fees in all cases; to provide
4 for the cost per page for an original transcript and copies in appellate cases; and to
5 provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 13:961(F)(1)(o) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
8 §961.  Court reporters; generally

12	(o)  In the Thirty-Sixth Judicial District, a majority of the judges shall
13 determine the amount of the fee which shall be paid to the court reporter for the
14 transcription of each page of all testimony reported and transcribed in all cases,
15 which fee shall not be less than one dollar and fifty cents and shall not exceed two
16 dollars and seventy-five cents per thirty-one-line page and the amount of the fee per
17 copy of each page of transcribed testimony, which shall not exceed twenty-five
18 cents.

1 Section 2.  In accordance with the provisions of R.S. 13:62, the change in court costs
2or fees as provided by this Act shall become effective if and when the Judicial Council
3provides a recommendation that such court costs or fees meet the applicable guidelines in
4its report to the Louisiana Legislature. No fees shall be imposed or collected without Judicial
5Council approval.

Abstract: Authorizes a change in transcription fees in all cases.
Present law provides that in all cases a court reporter shall not be paid an amount less than
$1.50 or more than $2.75 per 31-line page for all testimony reported and transcribed and no
more than 25¢ per page for copies. 
Proposed law requires the fee amounts for transcripts and copies to be determined by a
majority vote of the judges of the 36
th
 JDC to be paid to the court reporters in addition to
their salary.
Proposed law provides that the change in court costs or fees shall become effective upon
approval by the Judicial Council.
