HIGHER EDUCATION: Extends deadline for annual January meetings of certain public
postsecondary education boards
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 17:1833(E), 1853(E), and 3123(E), relative to meetings of
3 certain public postsecondary education boards; to provide relative to the first meeting
4 each year of the Board of Regents and the University of Louisiana and Southern
5 University boards of supervisors; and to provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 17:1833(E), 1853(E), and 3123(E) are hereby amended and reenacted
8to read as follows:
9 §1833. Domicile; organization; Domicile, organization, and meetings of board

11 E. The board shall meet on or before the second Monday in January of in
12 January each year, and at other times as fixed by the board or upon call of the
13 president. The first meeting of the board shall be held in Baton Rouge on the call of
14 the governor within ten days after the promulgation of the results of the election as
15 required by R.S. 17:22(B), or if no such election is held, within ten days after the
16 appointment of members by the governor as provided in R.S. 17:22(C) and R.S.
17 17:1832. In no event shall the first meeting of the board be held later than May 10,
18 1975.

5 chairman. The first meeting of the board, shall be held in Baton Rouge on the call

7 of initial members of the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary
8 Education as provided in R.S. 17:22(B), or if no election is held, within ten days
9 after the appointment by the governor of initial members to the board and to the
10 Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Board of
11 Trustees for State Colleges and Universities. In no event shall the first meeting of
12 the board be held later than May 10, 1975.

18 chairman. The board shall meet at least twice yearly with the State Board of
19 Elementary and Secondary Education in accordance with the provisions of Paragraph
20 D of Section 5 of Article VIII, Section 5(D) of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974
21 Louisiana.

Present law provides requirements for meetings of the Bd. of Regents and the Southern
University and University of La. boards of supervisors.

Present law requires the boards to meet on or before the second Mon. in Jan. of each year.
Proposed law retains requirement that the boards meet in Jan. but removes specific day by
which they are required to meet.
