HLS 23RS-392 ENGROSSED 2023 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 93 BY REPRESENTATIVE CARRIER DISTRICTS/FIRE PROTECT: Provides relative to per diem paid to members of the governing board of Fire District No. 5 of Allen Parish 1 AN ACT 2To enact R.S. 40:1498(K), relative to Fire Protection District No. 5 of the Parish of Allen, 3 State of Louisiana; to provide relative to per diem paid to member of the district's 4 governing board; and to provide for related matters. 5 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published 6 as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of 7 Louisiana. 8Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 9 Section 1. R.S. 40:1498(K) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 10 ยง1498. Compensation of board members 11 * * * 12 K.(1) Notwithstanding the per diem rate set by Subsection A of this Section 13 but otherwise in accordance therewith and subject to the provisions of Paragraph (2) 14 of this Subsection, members of the governing board of Fire Protection District No. 15 5 of the Parish of Allen, State of Louisiana may be paid a per diem of one hundred 16 dollars and the district president may be paid a per diem of one hundred fifty dollars. 17 (2) The district's governing board may increase the per diem its members 18 receive above the amount provided for in Paragraph (1) of this Subsection, but the 19 per diem shall not exceed three hundred dollars. Present law authorizes parishes to create fire protection districts. Present law provides that members of the governing boards of fire protection districts may be paid a per diem of $30 for attending meetings of the board, not to exceed two meetings in a month. Provides that per diem payments are paid from funds of the district. Proposed law increases the authorized per diem for members of the governing board of Fire Protection District No. 5 of Allen Parish to $100 for members and $150 for the president. Further authorizes the governing board to increase its per diem to not more than $300. Otherwise retains present law.
