ENROLLED 2023 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 24 BY REPRESENTATIVE DUSTIN MILLER A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To recognize April 19, 2023, as Nurses Day and May 6 through May 12, 2023, as National Nurses Week in Louisiana. WHEREAS, over sixty-six thousand registered nurses are actively licensed in Louisiana; and WHEREAS, nursing is the largest segment of healthcare professions in Louisiana and the United States; and WHEREAS, the Gallup Poll ranked nursing as the most ethical and trusted profession for the past twenty-one consecutive years; and WHEREAS, the registered nursing profession is well-suited to meet the diverse and emerging healthcare needs of the American population in a wide range of settings; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association, as the voice of registered nurses in our state, continues to work to foster high standards for the practice of professional nursing and to advocate for quality health care for all citizens of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the demand for registered nursing services will continue to grow as the American population ages, new health challenges emerge, and innovations in health care expand; and WHEREAS, safe, cost-effective, and high-quality healthcare services provided by registered nurses will be an increasingly important component of the nation's healthcare delivery system; and WHEREAS, since 1993, National Nurses Week has been celebrated annually from May 6, which is National Nurses Day, through May 12, which is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing; and WHEREAS, in 2023, the American Nurses Association theme for National Nurses Week is "You Make a Difference"; and Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 24 ENROLLED WHEREAS, registered nurses make a difference by influencing and shaping health policy decisions that ensure all Americans have access to high-quality, affordable healthcare coverage. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize April 19, 2023, as Nurses Day and May 6 through May 12, 2023, as National Nurses Week in Louisiana and does hereby encourage the residents of Louisiana to join in honoring the registered nurses who provide quality care to the citizens of this state. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express its support for the inclusion of nurses in discussions of health policy at all levels where policy decisions are made. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the executive director of the Louisiana State Nurses Association.
