COMMENDATIONS: Commends Louisiana State University student Kenedi Lynch on
being named a Goldwater Scholar
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend Louisiana State University student Kenedi Lynch on being named a
3 Goldwater Scholar.
4 WHEREAS, Congress established the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence
5in Education Program in 1986 to honor Senator Barry M. Goldwater; Senator Goldwater
6served his country for fifty-six years as both a soldier and statesman, including thirty years
7as a United States Senator; and
8 WHEREAS, the program's purpose is to provide a continuing source of highly
9qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college
10students who intend to pursue careers in those fields; and
11 WHEREAS, Kenedi Lynch is a Stamps Scholar and Roger H. Ogden Honors College
12student at Louisiana State University who studies biological sciences with a minor in
13psychology; she intends to pursue medical and doctoral degrees so that she can work as a
14clinical researcher; and
15 WHEREAS, Ms. Lynch was previously selected to participate in the Amgen Scholars
16Program, which allows undergraduates from across the globe to participate in cutting-edge
17research opportunities at world-class institutions; and
18 WHEREAS, Ms. Lynch conducted research in a neuroendocrinology and behavior
19laboratory, and in conjunction with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, she
20investigated haemosporidian (avian malarial) parasites and their effect on the state's turkey
21population; she also conducted a pilot study about neurogenesis in the brain; and

1 WHEREAS, Kenedi Lynch's incredible academic accomplishments and research
2efforts have earned her national recognition and selection as a Goldwater Scholar; she is
3most deserving of the highest recognition for her astounding achievements.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
5commend Louisiana State University student Kenedi Lynch on being named a Goldwater
6Scholar and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that she continue to prosper in her pursuit
7to improve health outcomes in the state of Louisiana.
