COMMENDATIONS: Commends Jeneral C. "Jack" Chelette on the occasion of his
retirement
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend Jeneral C. "Jack" Chelette on the occasion of his retirement.
3 WHEREAS, Jack has made significant contributions to the lives of farmers in
4Calcasieu and Jefferson Davis parishes, dedicating over five decades to Prairie Land
5Company and over four decades to Walker Louisiana Properties; and
6 WHEREAS, Jack grew up in a rice farming family, and an appreciation for
7agriculture was ingrained in Jack from an early age; and
8 WHEREAS, in college, he and a friend planted a five-acre truck patch, hauled cattle
9to Oklahoma for summer grazing, and hauled hay back to Louisiana; and
10 WHEREAS, Jack began his career as a land manager in the spring of 1966; over the
11span of his career, he would oversee twenty-seven farms in five different parishes; he was
12responsible for irrigation systems and marketing the crops; and
13 WHEREAS, the farmers' needs were always Jack's first priority; and
14 WHEREAS, Jack was instrumental in the sugarcane industry making a comeback in
15Southwest Louisiana, helping to form a sugarcane co-op and the sugar mill in Lacassine; and
16 WHEREAS, when Jack wasn't working, he spent his time laying pipelines, hunting
17alligator and harvesting alligator eggs, and raising heifers to sell for a profit; and
18 WHEREAS, he was a member of the American Soybean Association, Louisiana
19Soybean Association, and National Grain Board; he served as secretary and president of the
20Ward Three Drainage Board in Calcasieu Parish and the Greater Lake Charles Rotary Club;

1 WHEREAS, Jack was active in his church communities; at his Baptist church, he was
2the head of the Sunday School department and a member of the deacon board, and at the
3Assembly of God Church, he has served as a greeter and deacon and led a men's bible study
4group; and
5 WHEREAS, the state of Louisiana is grateful for and recognizes Jeneral C. "Jack"
6Chelette for his unwavering dedication and work ethic and his decades-long career of highly
7effective service.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
9commend Jeneral C. "Jack" Chelette on the occasion of his retirement; does hereby
10recognize and record his notable accomplishments and manifold contributions to agriculture
11in Calcasieu and Jefferson Davis parishes; and does hereby extend to him best wishes for
12continued success and happiness as he embarks upon new endeavors.
