BY REPRESENTATIVE DEVILLIER AND SENATORS CLOUD AND HENSGENS
COMMENDATIONS: Commends Louisiana State University at Eunice coach and athletic
director Jeff Willis on being named to the National Junior College Athletic
Association Coaches Hall of Fame
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend Louisiana State University at Eunice head baseball coach and athletic director
3 Jeff Willis on being named to the National Junior College Athletic Association
4 Coaches Hall of Fame.
5 WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize Jeff Willis, head baseball coach at
6Louisiana State University at Eunice, and to commend him on being named to the 2023
7Class of the National Junior College Athletic Association Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame;
8and
9 WHEREAS, Jeff Willis currently serves as the athletic director at Louisiana State
10University at Eunice and head baseball coach of the Bengals baseball team; he has amassed
11a career coaching record of nine hundred eighty-one wins and only two hundred fourteen
12losses, and his teams have achieved the top ranking in the National Junior College Athletic
13Association (NJCAA) baseball polls in fifteen of his twenty seasons as head coach; and
14 WHEREAS, Coach Willis has also led his teams to seven national championships,
15which is tied for the most by one school in NJCAA history; additionally, his teams have
16never finished a season ranked lower than seventh overall in the NJCAA baseball polls; and
17 WHEREAS, Coach Willis is also a twenty-one-year member of the American
18Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) who has been named an ABCA Regional Coach of
19the Year on eleven occasions and garnered seven ABCA NJCAA Division II National Coach
20of the Year honors; and

1 WHEREAS, Coach Willis was recently elected by the ABCA to join its board of
2directors while also serving as the junior college division chairman; he is now one of just
3four junior college coaches on the board, which encompasses all levels of competitive
4baseball; and
5 WHEREAS, earlier this year, Coach Willis was named to the 2023 Class of the
6NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame; he was elected during the recent ABCA
7Convention in Nashville, Tennessee; and
8 WHEREAS, the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame began in 1982 and currently
9has one hundred thirty-two members enshrined; with his induction, Coach Willis becomes
10one of the youngest members and one of the quickest to be enshrined; and
11 WHEREAS, Coach Jeff Willis is most deserving of the highest recognition for his
12truly legendary coaching career.
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
14commend Louisiana State University at Eunice head baseball coach and athletic director Jeff
15Willis on being named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Coaches Hall of
16Fame and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that he continue to achieve new levels of
17coaching greatness for many years to come.
