HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 37
BY REPRESENTATIVE BEAULLIEU
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Designates April 19, 2023, as LSU Day at the legislature
and commends Louisiana State University
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To designate Wednesday, April 19, 2023, as LSU Day at the legislature and commends
3 Louisiana State University for its contributions.
4 WHEREAS, through its campuses and extension offices, Louisiana State University,
5or LSU, is the most comprehensive educational system in the state, with a public mission
6focused on education, research, and outreach; and
7 WHEREAS, at LSU, there are more than 58,000 students enrolled across all levels
8of higher education, pursuing everything from certificates to doctorates; and
9 WHEREAS, LSU offers a comprehensive education in a broad number of fields,
10including agriculture, humanities, physical sciences, music, medicine, nursing, allied health,
11engineering, veterinary medicine, social sciences, education, dentistry, law, business
12administration, and public administration; and
13 WHEREAS, LSU holds a research portfolio valued at $1.3 billion and collaborates
14with more than 130 universities and 500 industry partners around the world; and
15 WHEREAS, LSU researchers across Louisiana are working on developing a wide
16range of innovations to improve the quality of life for people in the state and in the nation
17as a whole and do so by studying issues such as disease management, advanced medical
18treatments, obesity, coastal protection, hurricane preparedness, energy, natural resource
19management, and agriculture; and
20 WHEREAS, of the certified Centers of Excellence in the state, more than half are
21affiliated with LSU; and

1 WHEREAS, LSU employs faculty who are excellent, world-renowned
2teacher-scholars and who are nationally competitive in research and creative activities and
3outlets; and
4 WHEREAS, LSU faculty contribute to a world-class knowledge base that is
5transferable to educational, professional, cultural, and economic enterprises and use their
6extensive talents and resources to solve economic, environmental, and social challenges; and
7 WHEREAS, Forbes magazine ranks LSU among the top 20 universities that excel
8in both academics and athletics; and
9 WHEREAS, the generosity of the citizens of Louisiana, and of the nation as a whole,
10has contributed to the support of LSU; in turn, LSU has provided quality education, basic
11and applied research, new and state-of-the-art discoveries in all fields, numerous hours of
12volunteer service, and valuable public service; and
13 WHEREAS, LSU is Louisiana's most important economic asset, contributes over
14$6.1 billion in total economic sales, provides an estimated 45,700 jobs to communities, and
15provides over $2.4 billion in new statewide earnings; and
16 WHEREAS, measured in terms of economic activity, for every dollar provided by
17the state, LSU provides a $13.85 return; and
18 WHEREAS, as an institution that is focused on improving the quality of life for
19Louisiana's citizens, LSU remains one of the state's greatest investments.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
21designate Wednesday, April 19, 2023, as LSU Day at the legislature and does hereby
22commend Louisiana State University for its manifold contributions to the state of Louisiana.
