COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Louisiana State University Health Shreveport faculty
member Dr. Daniel Flowers for his accomplishments
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend Louisiana State University Health Shreveport faculty member Dr. Daniel
3 Flowers for his accomplishments.
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Daniel Flowers is an assistant professor of physical therapy at
5Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Shreveport who has an established track record of
6excellence in all three of the core aspects of academic medicine:  teaching, research, and
7clinical service; and
8 WHEREAS, among his numerous professorial responsibilities, Dr. Flowers serves
9as lead faculty for orthopaedic and musculoskeletal curriculum in LSU Health Shreveport's
10entry-level doctor of physical therapy (DPT) degree program, and he teaches rehabilitation
11sciences doctoral students and clinical residents; and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Flowers pairs his immense degree of intelligence with a truly
13incredible work ethic; he received the Allen A. Copping Award for Excellence in Teaching
14in 2021, after completing a year-long stretch in which he taught twenty-five credit hours and
15maintained a significant student contact schedule; since beginning as a faculty member at
16LSU Health Shreveport, he has created nine new courses, revised nine existing courses, and
17overhauled the entire curriculum for the school's orthopaedic residency program; and
18 WHEREAS, Dr. Flowers's research agenda earned him the School of Allied Health
19Professions (SAHP) Faculty Award for Research Excellence in 2021, two state-wide
20research awards, and a writing award from the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery; he also
21performs translational research in movement science using biomechanical instrumentation,

1motion capture, and comparative exercise science; he holds nineteen publications, including
2thirteen as lead author, and he has given twenty-six presentations at the local, state, and
3national levels; and
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Flowers mentors and collaborates with faculty across disciplines
5and institutions; his most recent collaboration with Dr. Patrick Massey, MD, orthopaedic
6surgeon, is on a $4.5 million multi-center, United States Department of Defense-funded
7grant, The STaR Trial; the grant will be subcontracted through the University of Pittsburgh
8Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, which is world renowned for translational research in
9orthopaedic surgery and physical therapy; and
10 WHEREAS, Dr. Flowers maintains excellence in his clinical practice as a board-
11certified orthopaedic clinical specialist; he underscores his immense ability with an
12admirable degree of professional decorum, which serves him well in his role as program
13director for the LSU Health Shreveport Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program;
14and
15 WHEREAS, in addition to his exceptional clinical service, Dr. Flowers holds an
16outstanding record of service to the School of Allied Health, LSU Health Shreveport, and
17the field of medicine at-large; he served the Faculty Delegate Assembly of SAHP as an
18elected delegate for six years and as vice president and president of the assembly, collecting
19data for its first data-based strategic planning process; and
20 WHEREAS, Dr. Flowers currently serves on the elected LSU Health Shreveport
21Faculty Senate as a representative for SAHP; he is also a member of numerous committees
22including the SAHP Grants and Research Committee and the Medical Curriculum Redesign
23Task Force for the School of Medicine, and he chairs the SAHP Interprofessional Education
24Committee; and
25 WHEREAS, Dr. Flowers serves in a statewide role for the American Physical
26Therapy Association of Louisiana as the chair of the Louisiana research committee and
27member of the governmental affairs committee; and
28 WHEREAS, Dr. Daniel Flowers is a truly incredible professional and leader, and he
29is most deserving of the highest recognition for his numerous academic accomplishments.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
2commend Louisiana State University Health Shreveport faculty member Dr. Daniel Flowers
3for his academic accomplishments and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that he continue
4to prosper in all of his professional and academic pursuits.
