A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To designate Wednesday, May 10, 2023, as CODOFIL Day at the state capitol.
WHEREAS, the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana, or CODOFIL,
was created in 1968 to oversee the development and expansion of the state's economic
development and tourism activities designed to promote Louisiana's native francophone
culture, heritage, and language; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana brand is greatly enhanced by its French and Creole
culture, heritage, and languages; and
WHEREAS, to sustain this brand and promote future economic growth, Louisiana
should maintain a robust bilingual system and should continue to cultivate relationships with
its international partners, a list that includes France, Belgium, Quebec, and New Brunswick;
and
WHEREAS, Louisiana is the first state in the union to be accepted into the
Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, which is an organization of eighty-eight
French countries from around the world representing 300 million French speakers; and
WHEREAS, as Louisiana's state agency for francophone affairs, CODOFIL
continues to nurture and grow international partnerships, and these partnerships result in
economic growth for the state.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
designate Wednesday, May 10, 2023, as CODOFIL Day at the state capitol and does hereby
commend the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana for its manifold
contributions to the culture and economy of Louisiana.
