HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 125

COMMENDATIONS: Commends the 2023 participants of the Youth Legislature program
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the 2023 participants of the Youth Legislature program.
3 WHEREAS, Youth Legislature is an enriching middle school program that
4familiarizes students with the legislative process and fosters youth leadership, cooperation,
5and teamwork among peers; and
6 WHEREAS, Youth Legislature was established in 1978 as a program though which
7participating students gain the confidence necessary to assume leadership roles in high
8school and their communities; the program serves over fifteen hundred students across
9fourteen parishes throughout Louisiana each year; and
10 WHEREAS, students who enroll in Youth Legislature receive classroom instruction
11and engage in a two-day mock legislative session at the Old State Capitol; during the mock
12session, they elect a governor and House and Senate officers, and students sponsor, debate,
13and pass or defeat bills that they have drafted; they also lead and serve on legislative
14committees and deliver speeches; and
15 WHEREAS, Youth Legislature also offers press delegate and photojournalist roles
16for students interested in interviewing legislators and crafting editorials and articles; and
17 WHEREAS, the 2023 participants of Youth Legislature are most deserving of the
18highest recognition for engaging in their future civic duties.
19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
20Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the 2023 participants of the Youth
21Legislature program; does hereby recognize the faculty and volunteers of the Boys and Girls

1Club of Louisiana and the Big Buddy Program for their service and dedication to Louisiana's
2middle school students; and does hereby express sincerest wishes for the continued success
3of the program and all those who help execute its vision.
