HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 125

A RESOLUTION
To commend the 2023 participants of the Youth Legislature program.
WHEREAS, Youth Legislature is an enriching middle school program that
familiarizes students with the legislative process and fosters youth leadership, cooperation,
and teamwork among peers; and
WHEREAS, Youth Legislature was established in 1978 as a program though which
participating students gain the confidence necessary to assume leadership roles in high
school and their communities; the program serves over fifteen hundred students across
fourteen parishes throughout Louisiana each year; and
WHEREAS, students who enroll in Youth Legislature receive classroom instruction
and engage in a two-day mock legislative session at the Old State Capitol; during the mock
session, they elect a governor and House and Senate officers, and students sponsor, debate,
and pass or defeat bills that they have drafted; they also lead and serve on legislative
committees and deliver speeches; and
WHEREAS, Youth Legislature also offers press delegate and photojournalist roles
for students interested in interviewing legislators and crafting editorials and articles; and
WHEREAS, the 2023 participants of Youth Legislature are most deserving of the
highest recognition for engaging in their future civic duties.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the 2023 participants of the Youth
Legislature program; does hereby recognize the faculty and volunteers of the Boys and Girls
Club of Louisiana and the Big Buddy Program for their service and dedication to Louisiana's
middle school students; and does hereby express sincerest wishes for the continued success
of the program and all those who help execute its vision.
