HLS 23RS-2652 ORIGINAL 2023 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 142 BY REPRESENTATIVES SCHAMERHORN AND CHARL ES OWEN COMMENDATIONS: Commends Billy Lewis on the occasion of his retirement 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend Billy Lewis on the occasion of his retirement. 3 WHEREAS, Billy Lewis is the owner of Billy's Barber Shop, which was originally 4located on 3rd Street in Leesville, Louisiana; he and his brother, Phil Lewis, have provided 5quality service to the Vernon Parish community for the last sixty-three years; and 6 WHEREAS, Billy is an incredibly talented barber; his professional accomplishments 7include winning both a state competition in men's and women's haircuts and styles in 1970 8and a national competition held in Florida in 1979; and 9 WHEREAS, Mr. Lewis moved his barber shop to the Berrytown Shopping Center 10in Leesville in 1989; he also worked for the Louisiana Barber Board as an inspector of 11barber shops in 1997; his efforts even earned him the Small Business Award from the 12Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce; and 13 WHEREAS, Billy ran a genuine family business that included more than his brother; 14his sister, Cricket Lewis Watkins, worked at his shop until she moved to Bossier City, 15Louisiana, and his son, Trey Lewis, worked with him; and 16 WHEREAS, Billy's Barber Shop moved to its current location in Southgate Plaza in 172010, and will remain there until Billy's retirement on May 11, 2023; he is most deserving 18of the highest recognition for his incredible career and service to the Vernon Parish 19community. 20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 21Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Billy Lewis on the occasion of his retirement Page 1 of 2 HLS 23RS-2652 ORIGINAL HR NO. 142 1and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that he continue to prosper and enjoy his well- 2earned retirement.
