CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences on the death of Jim Harris
1 A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Jim Harris.
3 WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the House of
4Representatives has learned of the death of Jim Harris; and
5 WHEREAS, Jim dedicated more than four decades of service working in all facets
6of governmental and public affairs as founder and president of Harris, DeVille, and
7Associates, Inc.; he possessed the ability to quickly assess an issue, determine its critical
8components, and recommend an appropriate solution; and
9 WHEREAS, Jim specialized in strategic communications planning, organization, and
10response, and he developed and implemented many communications, management and
11public relations programs nationwide; and
12 WHEREAS, in addition to his consulting work, Jim lobbied the legislature and other
13branches of Louisiana government regularly on behalf of his clients for more than thirty
14years; throughout his career, he developed and managed numerous multi-industry coalitions
15in the legislative and public policy sectors; and
16 WHEREAS, prior to establishing Harris, DeVille, and Associates, Inc., Jim served
17as a working member of the media, as press secretary for Governor Edwin Edwards, and he
18worked in economic development for Governor David Treen; he also held key management
19positions in several state agencies dealing with the management of transportation, health,
20economic development, and environmental quality; and

1 WHEREAS, Jim was admired around the state capitol for his genial manner and his
2civil respect for everyone he worked with; he served not only his clients, but the state of
3Louisiana and democratic governance in an exemplary manner; and
4 WHEREAS, Jim Harris leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Linda, and his two
5children; he will be deeply missed, but his legacy of service to Louisiana shall never be
6forgotten.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
8Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Jim
9Harris; does hereby recognize his incredible dedication to the state of Louisiana; and does
10hereby extend sincerest wishes that his family, friends, and loved ones find comfort in their
11shared memories of his life.
