SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates May 21-27, 2023, as Emergency Medical
Services Week
1 A RESOLUTION
2To designate the week of May 21 through May 27, 2023, as Emergency Medical Services
3 Week in Louisiana.
4 WHEREAS, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, in
5partnership with the American College of Emergency Physicians, has designated the week
6of May 21 through May 27, 2023, as national Emergency Medical Services Week and has
7selected the theme "Where Emergency Care Begins" for the week; and
8 WHEREAS, emergency medical services are an essential public service and a vital
9part of the medical care continuum; and
10 WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide
11lifesaving care to those in need twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and
12 WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival
13and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
14 WHEREAS, emergency medical services have grown to fill a gap by providing
15important, out-of-hospital care, including preventive medicine, follow-up care, and access
16to telemedicine; and
17 WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of emergency medical
18responders, emergency medical technicians, advanced emergency medical technicians,
19paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators,
20administrators, prehospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained
21members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers; and

1 WHEREAS, career and volunteer members of emergency medical services teams
2engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance
3and ensure their lifesaving skills; and
4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of
5emergency medical services providers by designating the week of May 21 through May 27,
62023, as Emergency Medical Services Week in Louisiana highlighting the theme, "Where
7Emergency Care Begins".
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate the week of May 21 through May 27, 2023,
10as Emergency Medical Services Week in Louisiana and does hereby encourage the citizens
11of Louisiana to observe the week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
