COMMENDATIONS: Commends Breka Peoples for her community service
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Breka Peoples for her community service.
3 WHEREAS, Breka Peoples is a leading voting rights and police brutality activist in
4the state of Louisiana, who is known by many as the "Godmother of Justice"; and
5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Peoples activism includes leading a march of one hundred fifty
6black men to voting polls in Mansfield, Louisiana, in 2020, and leading many protests that
7drove policy change in both Shreveport and the state of Louisiana; and
8 WHEREAS, Mrs. Peoples is the wife of Kwearri Peoples and the mother of four,
9Sidney, Nathan, Kennedie, and Kaitlyn; she is also the founder of The Peoples Promise, a
10grassroots lobbying organization that is actively involved with the legislature; moreover, The
11Peoples Promise Youth Division, which is among the most effective youth-led civic
12organizations in the state, works to impact policy in Caddo Parish regarding access to higher
13education; and
14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Peoples has received numerous awards and honors for her
15activism, including the Louisiana Lefty Organizing Award and the Ralph Waldo Emerson
16Award; she is most deserving of the highest recognition for her commitment to community
17service.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
19Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Breka Peoples for her community service
20and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that she continue her inspiring work that brings
21great pride to the state of Louisiana.
