HLS 23RS-3057 ORIGINAL 2023 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 175 BY REPRESENTATIVE LACOMBE COMMENDATIONS: Commends Jacob Sam Eaves on his acceptance to the United States Naval Academy 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend Jacob Sam Eaves on his acceptance to the United States Naval Academy. 3 WHEREAS, Jacob Sam Eaves is a 2023 graduate of Catholic High of Pointe Coupee 4in New Roads, Louisiana; he is the valedictorian of his class and finished his high school 5career with an unweighted 4.0 GPA and weighted 4.12 GPA; his academic achievements 6also include completing several dual enrollment courses, membership in the National Society 7of High School Scholars, and scoring a 31 on the ACT; and 8 WHEREAS, Jacob's achievements extend far beyond the classroom; he was a 9member of his school's varsity teams in powerlifting, soccer, track and field, Esports, and 10swimming; he is particularly accomplished in powerlifting, winning a 2023 state 11championship, setting a state lifting record, placing in multiple meets, and winning his 12team's coach's award; he was also a member of the All-Academic Composite Teams in both 13powerlifting and track and field; and 14 WHEREAS, Jacob is a proven leader who consistently displays a remarkable degree 15of maturity and initiative; he served as student council president during his sophomore and 16junior years of high school and as vice president during his senior year; he was a founding 17member and captain of the Catholic High of Pointe Coupee Esports team and president of 18the school's Beta Club, Culture Club, and Music Club; he participated in the Pointe Coupee 19Young Leaders program and the Louisiana State University Ag Leadership Program; and 20 WHEREAS, Jacob has received countless awards and honors for his many 21achievements, including placing first in the Diocese of Baton Rouge and third in the state Page 1 of 2 HLS 23RS-3057 ORIGINAL HR NO. 175 1of Louisiana during the Knights of Columbus Catholic Youth Leadership competition and 2winning the United States Naval Science Award, Broadcom Masters Award, Golden Hornet 3Award, and many more; and 4 WHEREAS, Jacob is a truly humble community servant who has volunteered at the 5Louisiana War Veterans Home, the Baton Rouge Food Bank, the Sons of the American 6Legion, and the Harvest Festival; he also served as a civil air patrol cadet and classmate tutor 7and participated in the 4-H Leadership Challenge Camp; and 8 WHEREAS, Jacob is the son of Jason Scott Eaves and Christy Eaves and brother of 9Anna Jean Eaves; his grandparents are Sam and Gloria Eaves and Larry and Stephanie Jean 10Dobson; and 11 WHEREAS, Jacob Sam Eaves recently received an Offer of Appointment from both 12the United States Naval Academy and the United States Air Force Academy; he has chosen 13to attend the Naval Academy, and he is most deserving of the highest recognition for his 14truly astonishing accomplishments and for bringing immense pride to the state of Louisiana. 15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 16Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Jacob Sam Eaves on his acceptance to the 17United States Naval Academy and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that he continue to 18prosper in all of his endeavors as he serves his country with pride and honor.
