SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes June 18-25, 2023, as Amateur Radio Week
in the state of Louisiana
1 A RESOLUTION
2To recognize June 18-25, 2023, as Amateur Radio Week in the state of Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, amateur radio operators are celebrating over a century of the miracle
4of the human voice broadcast over the airwaves; and
5 WHEREAS, amateur radio has continued to provide a bridge between peoples,
6societies, and countries by creating friendships and allowing the sharing of ideas; and
7 WHEREAS, over the decades, amateur radio operators have also provided countless
8hours of community service both in emergencies and by assisting local organizations; and
9 WHEREAS, amateur radio operators provide such services as volunteers; and
10 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana also
11recognizes the services amateur radio operators provide to our many emergency response
12organizations, including the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency
13Preparedness and many parish and local law enforcement agencies; and
14 WHEREAS, these individuals have further demonstrated their value in public
15assistance by providing free radio communications for local parades, bike-a-thons,
16walk-a-thons, fairs, and other charitable public events; and
17 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana appreciates
18the diligence of these amateur radio operators who also serve as weather spotters in the
19Skywarn program of the National Weather Service; and
20 WHEREAS, the American Radio Relay League is the national association for
21amateur radio operators in the United States; and

1 WHEREAS, there are more than 850,000 amateur radio licensees in the United
2States, and an estimated three million worldwide; and
3 WHEREAS, the American Radio Relay League Amateur Radio Field Day exercise
4will take place on June 24-25, 2023; the exercise is a twenty-four hour emergency
5preparedness drill and demonstration of the operators' skills and readiness to provide
6self-supporting communications without further infrastructure being required.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
8Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize June 18-25, 2023, as Amateur Radio Week
9in the state of Louisiana.
