COMMENDATIONS: Commends Coach M.L. Woodruff on his induction into the
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Coach M.L. Woodruff on his induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of
3 Fame.
4 WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize legendary Parkview Baptist School
5baseball coach, Coach M.L. Woodruff, on the occasion of his induction into the Louisiana
6Sports Hall of Fame; and
7 WHEREAS, Coach Woodruff began his coaching career in 1981 as the head baseball
8coach at Dolye High School in Livingston Parish; one year later, he accepted an offer from
9Parkview Baptist School in Baton Rouge to serve as the head baseball coach, head basketball
10coach, and assistant football coach; and
11 WHEREAS, Coach Woodruff would go on to spend the remainder of his three-
12decades-long teaching and coaching career at Parkview Baptist; he served as the Eagles'
13head baseball coach for twenty-seven years, developing the school's program into one of the
14top programs among all classifications in the state of Louisiana; under his leadership, the
15team won twenty-one district titles, made twenty-three playoff appearances, and won eleven
16state championships; and
17 WHEREAS, Coach Woodruff achieved a career coaching record of six hundred three
18wins, one hundred sixty-three losses, and two ties, giving him a winning percentage of .785;
19as another indicator of his iconic and legendary coaching status, his teams at Parkview
20Baptist achieved a perfect record of twenty-two wins and zero losses in all semifinals and
21finals games; and

1 WHEREAS, Coach Woodruff was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's
2Coach of the Year in 1986, 1987, and 1989; he was also honored by the American Baseball
3Congress Association as the 2007 National Coach of the Year; he was inducted into the
4Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2016 and the Louisiana Baseball Coaches
5Association Hall of Fame in 2018; and
6 WHEREAS, Coach M. L. Woodruff is a true coaching icon who is most deserving
7of the highest recognition for his successful leadership of the Parkview Baptist School
8baseball program.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
10Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Coach M. L. Woodruff on his induction into
11the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that he continue
12to prosper and serve as a model of genuine coaching greatness.
