COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Honorable Clay Schexnayder and expresses
enduring gratitude for his outstanding contributions to the parishes of Ascension,
Livingston, St. James, and St. John the Baptist and the state of Louisiana, particularly
during his tenure as a distinguished member and speaker of the Louisiana House of
Representatives
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Honorable Clay Schexnayder and to express enduing gratitude for his
3 outstanding contributions to the parishes of Ascension, Livingston, St. James, and
4 St. John the Baptist and the state of Louisiana, particularly during his tenure as a
5 distinguished member and speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives.
6 WHEREAS, Clay Schexnayder is a notable public servant who has served with
7excellence for three terms as a state representative since taking office in 2012, during which
8time he has fully used every opportunity to serve the citizens of District No. 81 and the state
9in an honorable and dedicated manner; and

1 WHEREAS, since January 13, 2020, Clay Schexnayder has served with great
2distinction as the sixty-ninth speaker of the House of Representatives and has led with poise
3and honor throughout a term that included the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic; and
4 WHEREAS, during his time in the House of Representatives, Speaker Schexnayder
5has authored and supported many important pieces of legislation and has played a key role
6in the House's work on numerous state issues; as speaker, he served as the lead author for
7the centralized sales tax collection bill and helped steer the House throughout the difficult
8redistricting process in 2021; and
9 WHEREAS, Speaker Schexnayder has been a proud member of the Acadiana
10Delegation, Capital Region Legislative Delegation, Louisiana Republican Legislative
11Delegation, and the Louisiana Rural Caucus; and
12 WHEREAS, Speaker Schexnayder's diligent committee service included serving as
13chair of the House Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural
14Development and co-chair of the Legislative Budgetary Control Council and the Joint Select
15Committee on Louisiana Economic Recovery; he served as a member of the House
16Committee on Civil Law and Procedure, the House Select Committee on Homeland
17Security, the House Committee on Labor and Industrial Relations, the House Committee on
18Natural Resources and Environment, the House Committee on Ways and Means, and the
19Legislative Audit Advisory Council; and
20 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives and the state as a whole have greatly
21benefitted from Speaker Schexnayder's leadership; and
22 WHEREAS, as he prepares to embark on the next exciting and productive chapter
23of his life, Speaker Schexnayder merits a sincere measure of commendation for his singular
24contributions and the exemplary strides he has taken as an exceptional member and speaker
25of the Louisiana House of Representatives.
26 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
27Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Honorable Clay Schexnayder; does
28hereby extend honor and recognition to him for his outstanding contributions throughout his
29tenure as a distinguished member and speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives,
30which has been marked by his uncompromising endeavor to improve the welfare of his

1constituents in the parishes of Ascension, Livingston, St. James, and St. John the Baptist and
2the state of Louisiana; and does hereby pay tribute to him for the generous and effective way
3in which he has dedicated his intelligence and his energy to the service of his family, friends,
4community, and state.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Louisiana House of Representatives hereby
6expresses enduring gratitude to Speaker Schexnayder for his service to the citizens of
7Louisiana, as evidenced by his superlative achievements as a member and speaker of this
8distinguished body, and does hereby extend to him the best wishes of all his colleagues for
9continued prosperity and success in his future endeavors.
