CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences on the death of Joseph Thompson
1	A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Joseph
3 Thompson.
4 WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the House of
5Representatives has learned of the unexpected passing, on June 2, 2023, of Joseph
6Thompson; and
7 WHEREAS, Joseph Thompson was born on April 18, 1956, in Bend, Oregon, to
8Walter Thompson and Mary Lou Mura Thompson; he served many years as the fire chief
9of the Olla Fire Department, and he was well known for his passion for the department; he
10also helped build and perform maintenance on fire trucks; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson was a board member of the North East Fire Fighters'
12Association and the Louisiana Fire Chiefs' Association; he was also a lifelong member of
13the Louisiana State Firemen's Association and served as president from 2019 to 2020; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson was inducted into the Louisiana Fire Chiefs' Hall of
15Fame in November 2020 by the First Responder Christian Association; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson cherished his family and loved camping, grilling,
17cooking briskets, and anything outdoors; and
18 WHEREAS, Joseph Thompson leaves to cherish his memory his wife of more than
19forty-eight years, Mary Ann Thompson; mother, Mary Lou Thompson; daughters, Crystal
20Benson, and her husband Eric, and Leigh Ann Thompson, and her husband Cory Dotson;
21brothers, Chris Thompson, and his wife Sarah, and Anders Thompson, and his wife Laura

1Ann; sisters, Jennifer Meadows, and her husband Dennis, and Abby Thompson;
2grandchildren, Lynzee Benson and Eric Benson; sister-in-law, Johnnie Fallin, and her
3husband Leslie; and a host of nieces and nephews; he will be deeply missed but certainly
4never forgotten.
5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
6Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Joseph
7Thompson; does hereby recognize his dedicated civil service as fire chief of the Olla Fire
8Department; and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that his family, friends, colleagues,
9and loved ones find comfort in their shared memories of his beautiful life.
