HLS 23RS-4207 ORIGINAL 2023 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 291 BY REPRESENTATIVE HODGES COMMENDATIONS: Commends the State of Israel on the seventy-fifth anniversary of the rebirth of the modern State of Israel 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend and congratulate the State of Israel upon the occasion of the seventy-fifth 3 anniversary of the rebirth of the modern State of Israel, to recognize the 4 contributions of Israel to humankind, and to express support for the people of Israel 5 and the Jewish state. 6 WHEREAS, Israel was originally and historically granted her lands under and 7through the oldest recorded deed, as provided in the Old Testament, a tome of scripture held 8sacred and revered by Jews and Christians alike as presenting the acts and words of God; and 9 WHEREAS, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob promised in Genesis 12:3 to bless 10those that bless Israel, through the promise He made to Abraham: "And I will bless them that 11bless thee, and curse them that curseth thee: and in thee shall all the families of the earth be 12blessed"; and 13 WHEREAS, the internationally recognized legal basis for the establishment of the 14modern State of Israel was a binding resolution under international law, which was 15unanimously adopted by the League of Nations in 1922 and subsequently affirmed by both 16houses of the United States Congress; and 17 WHEREAS, on May 14, 1948, the provisional government of Israel proclaimed the 18rebirth of the State of Israel and on that same date the United States of America, via 19President Harry S. Truman, recognized the provisional Jewish government as the de facto 20authority of the Jewish State of Israel, thereby fulfilling the Biblical prophesy in Isaiah 66:8 21that the nation would be (re)born in a single day; and Page 1 of 3 HLS 23RS-4207 ORIGINAL HR NO. 291 1 WHEREAS, Israel established a form of government based on the precepts of liberty, 2justice, and peace taught by the Hebrew prophets upholding the full social and political 3equality of all her citizens without distinction of race, creed, or sex, while guaranteeing full 4freedom of conscience, worship, education, and culture; and 5 WHEREAS, over the centuries the city of Jerusalem has come to symbolize the love 6of the Jewish people for their ancient homeland and on June 7, 1967, the third day of the Six 7Day War, soldiers of Israel's Defense Forces entered the old city of Jerusalem and reunited 8the city, thereby making Jerusalem once again an integral part of the Jewish state; and 9 WHEREAS, Louisiana has a special connection to Judea and Samaria which were 10also returned to Israel as a result of the Six Day War and many towns and cities across 11Louisiana bear the names of Biblical cities throughout Judea and Samaria, such as Bethel, 12Hebron, and Shiloh; and 13 WHEREAS, the modern State of Israel has contributed to the rest of the world 14through significant and extraordinary developments in science, medicine, agriculture, and 15technology; and 16 WHEREAS, this year marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of the founding of the 17modern State of Israel in the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people. 18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 19Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the State of Israel upon the 20seventy-fifth anniversary of the rebirth of the modern State of Israel, recognize the 21contributions of Israel to humankind, and express support for the people of Israel and the 22Jewish state. 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 24Consul General of the State of Israel to the Southwest in Houston, Texas, to the Embassy of 25Israel to the United States in Washington, D.C. for transmission to the proper authorities in 26the State of Israel, to the Louisiana Chapter of American Israel Public Affairs Committee, 27and the Louisiana Chapter of Christians United for Israel.
