HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 55

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Hathaway High School Lady Hornets basketball team on winning the
Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division V state championship.
WHEREAS, the Hathaway High School Lady Hornets claimed the 2023 Division V
state title by defeating the Fairview High School Lady Panthers, 64-54, in the championship
game; the victory gives the program its first state championship in more than fifty years,
with the last title coming in 1970; and
WHEREAS, Lady Hornets Head Coach Courtnee Hollins merits particular
recognition for her leadership in preparing the team to execute in the season's most important
game; and
WHEREAS, the Hathaway High players performed exceptionally across the board;
Alli Crader, who finished with fourteen points and eleven rebounds, and Madison Suire, who
tallied twelve points and ten rebounds, led the team with double-doubles; Chaylee Beard and
Sienna Guidry added eleven points each, and Keely Francis and Lamiyah Sanchez
contributed eight points each; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets have shown incredible resilience over the last decade,
having lost to the Fairview Lady Panthers in the state championship in 2021, 2020, and
2010; they are most deserving of the highest recognition for persevering and reaching their
ultimate goal this year.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Hathaway High School Lady Hornets
basketball team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division
V state championship and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that the team's coaches,
players, and training staff continue their excellent work and always strive for greatness.
