COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Northwood High School Gators basketball team on
winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division IV state
championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Northwood High School Gators basketball team on winning the Louisiana
3 High School Athletic Association 2023 Division IV state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the Northwood High School Gators claimed the 2023 Division IV state
5title by handily defeating Lincoln Prep, 73-56, in the championship game at Burton
6Coliseum in Lake Charles, Louisiana; and
7 WHEREAS, Northwood Head Coach Alan Tinsley perfectly prepared the Gators to
8handle the pressure that comes with competing for a state championship; senior Omarion
9"Diddy" Layssard closed his career with an astounding performance in the championship,
10scoring thirty-four points and grabbing eleven rebounds; and
11 WHEREAS, the Gators' team rebounding also played a pivotal role in the outcome
12of the championship game; they grabbed an impressive thirty-nine rebounds with twenty-one
13of them coming on the offensive end; and
14 WHEREAS, the Northwood High School Gators basketball team is most deserving
15of the highest recognition for its incredible accomplishments this season.
16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
17Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Northwood High School Gators
18basketball team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division
19IV state championship and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that the team's coaches,
20players, and training staff continue their incredible work and always strive for greatness.
