COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Port Allen High School boys' basketball team on
winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division III Non-
Select state championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Port Allen High School boys' basketball team on winning the Louisiana
3 High School Athletic Association Division III Non-Select state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the Port Allen High School Pelicans basketball team captured the 2023
5Division III basketball state title by defeating Winnfield High School in the championship
6game at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Saturday, March 25, 2023; and
7 WHEREAS, the victory gives the Pelicans basketball program its fourth-consecutive
8state title; and
9 WHEREAS, the Pelicans exhibited an inspiring degree of passion, incredible
10teamwork, and unshakeable determination throughout the season, and each member of the
11team deserves recognition for his vital contributions to the team's success; and
12 WHEREAS, the members of the Port Allen High School boys' basketball team
13include Warren Bessie, Mason Boston, Koiey Ferguson, Ji'Siah Fernandez, Marques
14Harrison, Isaiah Howard, Aries Lewis, E.J. McQuillan, Shemar Morgan, and Frank Samuel;
15and
16 WHEREAS, these young men, along with Head Coach Dimario Jackson, Sr.,
17assistant coaches Dwayne Harmason, Antoine Washington, Raven Fernandez, and Alissa
18Thompson, and athletic trainer, Kacey Calabro, are most deserving of the highest recognition
19for their incredible accomplishments.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
2Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Port Allen High School boys' basketball
3team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division III Non-
4Select state championship and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that the team's coaches,
5players, and training staff continue their incredible work and always strive for greatness.
