HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 86

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Port Allen High School boys' basketball team on winning the Louisiana
High School Athletic Association Division III Non-Select state championship.
WHEREAS, the Port Allen High School Pelicans basketball team captured the 2023
Division III basketball state title by defeating Winnfield High School in the championship
game at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Saturday, March 25, 2023; and
WHEREAS, the victory gives the Pelicans basketball program its fourth-consecutive
state title; and
WHEREAS, the Pelicans exhibited an inspiring degree of passion, incredible
teamwork, and unshakeable determination throughout the season, and each member of the
team deserves recognition for his vital contributions to the team's success; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Port Allen High School boys' basketball team
include Warren Bessie, Mason Boston, Koiey Ferguson, Ji'Siah Fernandez, Marques
Harrison, Isaiah Howard, Aries Lewis, E.J. McQuillan, Shemar Morgan, and Frank Samuel;
and
WHEREAS, these young men, along with Head Coach Dimario Jackson, Sr.,
assistant coaches Dwayne Harmason, Antoine Washington, Raven Fernandez, and Alissa
Thompson, and athletic trainer, Kacey Calabro, are most deserving of the highest recognition
for their incredible accomplishments.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Port Allen High School boys' basketball
team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division III Non-
Select state championship and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that the team's coaches,
players, and training staff continue their incredible work and always strive for greatness.
