HLS 23RS-1806 ORIGINAL 2023 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 90 BY REPRESENTATIVE DEVILLIER CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences on the death of Ronnie Matthew LeMaire 1 A RESOLUTION 2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Ronnie 3 Matthew LeMaire. 4 WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the House of 5Representatives has learned of the passing, on April 22, 2023, of Ronnie Matthew LeMaire; 6and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. LeMaire possessed an unwavering conviction to serve Christ and 8always strived to live his life in a manner that was true to his faith; in pursuit of this purpose, 9his early schooling took him from a monastery boarding in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, to 10Immaculate Monastery in Lafayette, Louisiana, and then Sons of Sacred Heart Seminary 11College in Michigan, where he became fluent in both French and Latin; he joined a Trappist 12monastery in Huntsville, Utah, living by the three major rules of St. Benedict: stability, 13fidelity to the monastic life, and obedience; and 14 WHEREAS, Mr. LeMaire eventually felt called to leave the monastic life and follow 15in his two brothers' footsteps by joining the United States Marine Corps; he enrolled in 16music school in San Diego, California, where he became an excellent trumpeter; he became 17a member of the celebrated Marine Corps Band at Pearl Harbor, where he was stationed for 18twenty-nine months; and 19 WHEREAS, Mr. LeMaire also had the honor of playing for the CIN Pac Fleet, giving 20him the opportunity to honor his fallen brothers and sisters by playing Taps in funeral 21ceremonies at the Punchbowl Crater in Oahu, Hawaii; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 23RS-1806 ORIGINAL HR NO. 90 1 WHEREAS, completing his military service in 1958, Ronnie worked briefly in Lake 2Tahoe and in the oilfield before accepting a job as a bus driver for the Vermilion Parish 3School Board; and 4 WHEREAS, later in life, Mr. LeMaire joined the Benedictine monastery in 5Opelousas, Louisiana, and had the opportunity to play with the Eunice Symphony Orchestra; 6despite these many honors, he remained incredibly humble throughout his life; and 7 WHEREAS, Ronnie Matthew LeMaire leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Carrie 8K. LeMaire; granddaughter, Brooke Champagne; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Joseph 9Marceaux; stepchildren, Charlotte Fox, and her husband Shawn, Cindy Langley, and Trey 10Langley, and his wife Sheree; step-grandchildren, Carrie Soileau, Brett Soileau, Jonathan 11Fox, Payton Fox, Elizabeth Fox, Shelton Langley, and Fayte Langley; and step-great- 12grandson, Everen Soileau; he will be deeply missed but certainly never forgotten. 13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 14Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Ronnie 15Matthew LeMaire; does hereby express sincere appreciation for his service as a member of 16the United States Marine Corps; and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that his family, 17friends, and loved ones find comfort in their shared memories of his life.
