COMMENDATIONS: Commends WDSU News Chief Meteorologist Margaret Orr on
being recognized by WeatheRate, Inc., as the most accurate weather forecaster in
Louisiana for ten consecutive years
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend WDSU News Chief Meteorologist Margaret Orr on being recognized by
3 WeatheRate, Inc., as the most accurate weather forecaster in Louisiana for ten
4 consecutive years.
5 WHEREAS, Margaret Orr grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she developed
6a fascination with weather after standing in the eye of Hurricane Betsy as a child; and
7 WHEREAS, Margaret graduated from Louise S. McGehee High School in New
8Orleans, and she completed her undergraduate studies at Louisiana State University; as her
9interest in the study of weather continued to grow, she enrolled in the Mississippi State
10Broadcast Meteorology graduate program, which she handily completed; and
11 WHEREAS, Margaret joined WDSU News in 1979 as a general assignment reporter
12on the morning news; after reporting in the morning for three decades, she began forecasting
13weather for the 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 10:00 p.m. news in 2009; and
14 WHEREAS, Margaret then became a co-host of the "Breakfast Edition" with Bill
15Stanley, and later, she co-hosted the "World's Fair Show" with Alec Gifford; she has also
16co-hosted the Children's Hospital Telethon with Norman Robinson for more than twenty
17years, helping raise millions of dollars for the hospital; and
18 WHEREAS, Ms. Orr is a member of both the American Meteorology Society and
19the National Weather Association, and she holds official Seals of Approval from both; she

1has also been in receipt of top awards for breaking weather from the Associated Press and
2the New Orleans Press Club; and
3 WHEREAS, this year, WDSU News Chief Meteorologist Margaret Orr accepts her
4tenth-consecutive WeatheRate award as the most accurate weather forecaster in Louisiana;
5she is most deserving of the highest recognition for her incredible service to the citizens of
6our great state.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
8Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend WDSU News Chief Meteorologist Margaret
9Orr on being recognized by WeatheRate, Inc., as the most accurate weather forecaster in
10Louisiana for ten consecutive years and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that she
11continue her incredible work and prosper in all of her endeavors.
