Present law authorizes the governing authority of a local governmental subdivision to levy a fee not
to exceed $4.50 for each service or transaction carried out as an operation of an office of motor
vehicles field office that is not fully funded by the state. Requires that the fee be used solely to defray
the cost of operations of that local field office and not be charged for the procurement or renewal of
a motor vehicle registration license.
Present law retains these provisions and provides that the fee levied by the governing authorities in
the parishes of Orleans, Jefferson, and Calcasieu not exceed $6.00.
Proposed law authorizes the governing authority of the City of West Monroe to levy the fee
authorized under present law in an amount not to exceed $8.00.
Effective August 1, 2023.
