Present law provides for a metropolitan planning area consisting of the area located in the village
of Benton and the area lying within a five-mile radius outside of the village of Benton in the
unincorporated part of Bossier Parish. Present law further provides for the creation, organization,
powers, and duties of a metropolitan planning commission to manage the metropolitan planning area.
Proposed law retains present law and expands the jurisdictional boundaries of the metropolitan
planning area to extend beyond the five-mile radius in present law to include a larger portion of the
unincorporated area of Bossier Parish and proposed law changes the term "village" to "municipality".
Present law defines the "metropolitan planning commission" to mean the Benton-Parish
Metropolitan Planning Commission.
Proposed law defines the "metropolitan planning commission" to mean the Benton Metropolitan
Planning Commission.
Effective August 1, 2023.
