RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 205 (SB 87) 2023 Regular Session Robert Mills Existing law provides for the creation, organization, powers, and duties of a metropolitan planning commission to manage the metropolitan planning area in and around the municipality of Benton and includes certain unincorporated areas of Bossier Parish. Prior law provided for a metropolitan planning area that included the village of Benton but was limited to the area lying within a five-mile radius outside of the village of Benton in the unincorporated part of Bossier Parish. New law expands the jurisdictional boundaries of the metropolitan planning area to extend beyond the five-mile radius in prior law to also include a larger portion of the unincorporated area of Bossier Parish. New law changes the term "village" to "municipality" to reflect the fact that the population of Benton has grown to such an extent that the area no longer meets the definition of a "village". Prior law defined the "metropolitan planning commission" to mean the Benton-Parish Metropolitan Planning Commission. New law defines the "metropolitan planning commission" to mean the Benton Metropolitan Planning Commission. Effective August 1, 2023. (Amends Act No. 558 of the 1956 R.S.)
