FEES/LICENSES/PERMITS. Provides for adding bone marrow donorship to the list of
organ donations on state-issued driver's license. (8/1/23)
1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 32:410(B)(1)(a) and (b)(i), relative to donation of bone marrow;
3 to provide for bone marrow donation on Louisiana state-issued driver's license; and
4 to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 32:410(B)(1)(a) and (b)(i) are hereby amended and reenacted to read
7 as follows:
8 ยง410. Form of license; photograph, signature of licensee, anatomical gift statement,
9 declaration of life-sustaining procedures, and additional information
10 on license

12 B.(1)(a) The Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall give the
13 widest possible dissemination to the anatomical donation program relating to eyes,
14 kidneys, bone marrow, entire bodies, etc., and shall make whatever provisions are
15 feasible and desirable, through its drivers licensing examining offices, to enable
16 persons desiring to make such anatomical donations to confirm their desires and
17 intentions through the use of suitable documents to be maintained and issued in all

1 driver's license examining offices. Additionally the license issued by the department
2 shall contain an indication thereon whether or not the named applicant has elected
3 to make an anatomical gift pursuant to the provisions of this Chapter or R.S. 17:2351
4 et seq., said indication to be by placing an "X" in the appropriate box marked "Yes"
5 or "No" under or adjacent to the term "anatomical gift".
6 (b) The following information shall be made available free of charge to
7 applicants for a driver's license on a form to be promulgated by the department and
8 maintained on file with the department:
9 (i) An anatomical gift statement indicating the organs, including bone
10 marrow donated for the purpose of transplantation or transplantation research;

Present law makes provisions for driver's to donate anatomical gifts, including organs such
as eyes and kidneys. Proposed law retains present law and specifies bone marrow may be
donated as an anatomical gift.
