SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 12

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Eta state chapter of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc
on hosting the seventy-fourth annual national convention and Phyllis Thomas on serving as
the organization's national president.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend the Eta state chapter of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. on hosting the
3 organization's seventy-fourth annual national convention and Phyllis Thomas on
4 serving as their national president.
5 WHEREAS, the seventy-fourth Annual Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. national
6 convention will be hosted by the Eta state chapter with members throughout Louisiana
7 serving as hosts for the convention; and
8 WHEREAS, the convention will occur at the Embassy Suites in Baton Rouge,
9 Louisiana, from June 26th to June 29th, 2023; and
10 WHEREAS, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. has the distinction of being one of the
11 oldest national, professional organizations for educators in the United States that began in
12 December 1921, and nationalized in 1949; and
13 WHEREAS, it is the mission of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. to promote good
14 fellowship and fraternal cooperation; to oppose all forces which do not tend toward the
15 improvement of public schools; to issue charters signifying membership to local chapters;
16 and to receive fees to provide scholarship funds for deserving education majors; and
17 WHEREAS, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. has the distinction of being one of the
18 oldest organizations for educators in the United States; and

1 WHEREAS, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. has their national headquarters in
2 Tulsa, Oklahoma; and
3 WHEREAS, it is a special honor that Phyllis Thomas of Franklinton, Louisiana, will
4 serve as the national president for this year's convention; and
5 WHEREAS, the theme of the convention is "Radiate Kappa Spirit: Love, Courage,
6 Faith, Honor, and Loyalty."
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
8 commend Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. for promoting the advancement of education by
9 providing a network for the exchange of education and teaching practices by educators and
10 Phyllis Thomas on serving as the organization's president.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
12 Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc.
