Commends and congratulates Senator Gerald Boudreaux for being selected as recipient of the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America State Alliance Champion of the Year Award. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend and congratulate Senator Gerald Boudreaux for being selected as the recipient 3 of the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America State Alliance Champion of the Year 4 Award. 5 WHEREAS, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) is a national nonprofit 6 organization of local chapters which provide voluntary out-of-school timed programming 7 seeking to enable all young people, especially those most in need, to reach their full potential 8 as productive, caring, responsible citizens; and 9 WHEREAS, in a typical year, local chapters of Boys & Girls Clubs collectively 10 provide a safe haven for 3.6 million youth across the United States, directly facilitating the 11 opportunity for them to discover their great futures; and 12 WHEREAS, each year, the BGCA names a recipient of the State Alliance Champion 13 Award to honor a leader who has exhibited an unwavering commitment and passion toward 14 advocating for issues that will positively impact Boys & Girls Clubs and the youth served 15 by them; and 16 WHEREAS, at the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Conference held 17 in Orlando, Florida, Senator Gerald Boudreaux was named recipient of the State Alliance 18 Champion of the Year Award; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 44 SLS 23RS-1394 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, Senator Boudreaux is an alumni of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana, 2 selected as Youth of the Year in 1971; he spent over four decades working for the Lafayette 3 Parish Parks & Recreation Department, thirty-five of those years as the director of the 4 department; and he is a lifelong champion of youth development programs, having directly 5 witnessed the impact that the type of programming can have on a young person's life; and 6 WHEREAS, armed with his personal experiences and documented program 7 outcomes, Senator Boudreaux lead the charge for private and public investment in Boys & 8 Girls Clubs in Louisiana to fund additional sites to connect more youth to out-of-school 9 timed programming so more young people can have a safe haven to discover and achieve 10 their potential; and 11 WHEREAS, for his tireless work and advocacy for youth development programming, 12 the direct impact he has had on the lives of young people and their families, and for the pride 13 he brings to Louisiana in his selection for this prestigious national award, Senator Boudreaux 14 is considered a hero by many Louisianians. 15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 16 commend and congratulate Senator Gerald Boudreaux for his selection as the recipient of 17 the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America State Alliance Champion of the Year Award and 18 to acknowledge his many activities and contributions to the youth of our state. 19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 20 Senator Gerald Boudreaux.
