SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 56

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend the Louisiana Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution for receipt
of the Most Outstanding Service in Seconds State Project in the nation by the
National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
WHEREAS, founded in 1890, the National Society of the Daughters of the American
Revolution (NSDAR) is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women's service organization
dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, patriotism, and preserving American
history composed of over 190,000 members in three thousand chapters across the world; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Society of the Daughters of the American
Revolution (LSDAR) consists of forty-four chapters in five Louisiana districts whose
members are lineal descendants of men and women patriots who founded our nation; and
WHEREAS, when the National Society announced a new initiative in July 2022
called "Service in Seconds", the state committee chairman for the Service to America
Committee received approval from the Louisiana Veterans Administration for a statewide
project to collect plastic caps and lids that would be recycled into park benches and placed
at each of the five veterans' homes across the state; and
WHEREAS, two hundred pounds of plastic caps and lids were needed to make one
bench from recycled plastic; and
WHEREAS, although the initial project anticipated placing one bench at each
veterans' home, the response of LSDAR members resulted in a total collection of plastic lids
and caps in excess of 3,400 pounds, allowing LSDAR to place three recycled benches at
each veterans' home; and
WHEREAS, during the 132nd Continental Congress of the NSDAR held in
June 2023, the "Caps to Benches" project of LSDAR will receive the national award for the
Most Outstanding Service in Seconds State Project for 2022; and

WHEREAS, the commitment and dedication of LSDAR members from all forty-four
state chapters is to be commended and recognized for their assistance in providing a place
for relaxation at each veterans' home.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby
commends and congratulates the Louisiana State Society of the Daughters of the American
Revolution upon their being awarded the Most Outstanding Service in Seconds State Project
in the nation for 2022 by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Cheryl Whitlow Gott, State Regent LSDAR and Margaret D. Tyler, State Committee
Chairman for Service to America Committee, LSDAR.
