Establishes the Task Force on Safety for Law Enforcement Officers Involved in High Speed Vehicle
Pursuits to study and review police officer training and protcols for safety when the officer is
involved in a high speed vehicle pursuit, and to propose recommendations and specific proposals
for legislation, if any, by written report no later than February 15, 2024.
Provides that the task force will consist of the following members:
(1)One senator appointed by the president of the Senate who will serve as chairperson of the
task force.
(2)One member of the House of Representatives appointed by the speaker.
(3)One employee of the La. State Police, office of internal affairs, appointed by the
superintendent.
(4)The executive director of the La. District Attorneys Association or his designee.
(5)The state public defender or his designee.
(6)The executive director of the La. Sheriffs' Association or his designee.
(7)One member of the La. Association of Chiefs of Police appointed by the president of the
association.
(8)One member of the La. Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Criminal
Justice appointed by the executive director.
Provides relative to meetings of the task force, quorum, and voting requirements.
Specifies that the members of the task force serve without compensation, except for such
reimbursement or per diem they are individually entitled to as members of the constituent group they
represent.  
Provides that the names of the members are to be submitted to the president of the Senate by August
1, 2023, and the chair will thereafter call the first meeting of the task force no later than September
15, 2023. Requires that Senate Legislative Services provide staff support to the task force.
Provides that the task force may request additional staff support from the La. State Police and the
La. Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Criminal Justice.
Provides that the task force may make a written report of its finding and recommendations by
February 15, 2024.

of the Senate rather than the chair of the task force.
