SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 114

COMMENDATIONS. Commends and congratulates the Barbe High School 2023 tennis
teams on being undefeated in district play.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate the Lake Charles Barbe High School 2023 tennis teams on
3 being undefeated in district play.
4 WHEREAS, 2023 was a record setting year for the Lake Charles Barbe High School
5 girls' and boys' tennis teams; and
6 WHEREAS, both teams were undefeated in district play with 6-0 records; and
7 WHEREAS, the Girls All District Singles Championship was won by Natalie
8 Pumpelly and Girls All District Doubles Championship was won by the team of Genesis
9 Standing and April Wang, and the Boys All District Singles Championship was won by
10 Steven Rice; and
11 WHEREAS, thirteen players were named All-District Players, including Kensi
12 Daley, MacKenzie Geier, Meredith Karam, Claire McMorris, Natalie Pumpelly, Genesis
13 Standing, and April Wang from the girls' team and Ethan Eisen, Aidan Fontenot, Grayson
14 Link, Steven Rice, Gray Standing, and Kevin Zhang from the boys' team; and
15 WHEREAS, District Most Valuable Player Awards went to Natalie Pumpelly for the
16 second time and Genesis Standing and April Wang from the girls team and Steven Rice for
17 the third time from the boys' team; and
18 WHEREAS, at the regional competition, Steven Rice defended his regional singles

1 title and both the girls' and boys' teams placed second with ten players qualifying for state
2 competition; and
3 WHEREAS, at the state competition, Steven Rice won the State Singles Title, a first
4 in Barbe's tennis programs' history, and the boys' team placed third overall in their division;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, the Barbe Buccaneer tennis teams are lead by Coach Jill Rice and their
7 accomplishments are a source of pride and inspiration to their fellow students, the
8 community, and the state.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
10 does hereby commend and congratulate the Barbe High School 2023 tennis teams on being
11 undefeated in district play.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mr.
13 Patrick Fontenot, principal of Barbe High School.
