SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 138

COMMENDATIONS.  Congratulates the students and faculty of the St. Tammany Parish
School System for their placement of first-overall in the 26
th
 Annual Governor's Games'
Elementary State Championship Fitness Meet.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate the students and faculty of the St. Tammany Parish School
3 System for their placement of first-overall in the Louisiana Governor's Games' 26th
4 Annual Elementary State Championship Fitness Meet.
5 WHEREAS, for thirty years the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports
6 has hosted the Elementary State Championship Fitness Meet, the only statewide fitness
7 competition for elementary schools that includes thousands of kids across the state; and 
8 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Health describes the Louisiana Governor's
9 Games as "an opportunity for competition and fitness of all ages, skill levels, and economic
10 demographics that are held in cities across the state"; and 
11 WHEREAS, the Elementary State Championship Fitness Meet involves seven
12 fitness-related events including the 50-yard dash, the shuttle run, pull-ups, the standing
13 long-jump, curl-ups or sit-ups, the 600-yard run, and the V-sit and reach; and
14 WHEREAS, since 1997, the Elementary State Championship Fitness Meet has
15 served as the Olympic Games for elementary school-aged children in thirty parishes across
16 the state, with more than two hundred thousand competing for the state fitness crown; and
17 WHEREAS, the St. Tammany Parish School System placed first-overall in the 26th
18 annual Elementary State Championship Fitness Meet; and

1 WHEREAS, the top-two boys and girls from each parish travel to Baton Rouge
2 annually to compete for the fitness title; and 
3 WHEREAS, St. Tammany's top performer, Jenna Viger, led the way with 635
4 individual points and her teammates, Diego Gonzales-Torres, Cayden Wise, and Natalie
5 Rabon led them to overall victory; and
6 WHEREAS, to place first, St. Tammany Parish finished with 2,357 points to
7 overtake second place defending champs, Lafayette Parish with 2,352 points.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
9 congratulate the team, coaches, and parents of members of the St. Tammany Parish School
10 System's Elementary State Championship Fitness Meet team and recognize them for their
11 achievement.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
13 St. Tammany Parish School Board.
