SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 144
BY SENATOR FOIL 
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH.  Designates Thursday, June 1, 2023, as Knock Knock
Children's Museum Day at the state capitol. 
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To designate Thursday, June 1, 2023, as Knock Knock Children's Museum Day at the state
3 capitol.
4 WHEREAS, Knock Knock Children's Museum, a nonprofit educational and cultural
5 organization, opened its doors in August 2017 in the Recreation and Park Commission for
6 the Parish of East Baton Rouge's City-Brooks Park; and
7 WHEREAS, Knock Knock Children's Museum is built on a foundation of
8 evidence-based research regarding the critical importance of play and its impact on early
9 brain development and learning; and
10 WHEREAS, Knock Knock Children's Museum provides a safe and inclusive space
11 where families can connect in meaningful ways and is a place where parents and caregivers
12 can spend quality time with children, learn something new themselves, and experience the
13 joy of becoming immersed in purposeful, meaningful play in the museum's eighteen learning
14 zones; and
15 WHEREAS, Knock Knock Children's Museum, a contributor to the local economy,
16 helps close both the knowledge and opportunity gap in the greater Capital Region by
17 knocking down barriers for families through its Access for All programs for children with
18 disabilities or special needs and an expanding population of children living in

1 under-resourced environments and poverty; and
2 WHEREAS, Knock Knock Children's Museum remains focused on all areas of
3 development and learning, with a special emphasis on increasing early literacy skills
4 including reading, writing, listening, and speaking, while expanding knowledge and raising
5 interest in S.T.E.A.M., which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math
6 subjects, careers, and future career pathways; and
7 WHEREAS, Knock Knock Children's Museum recognizes the gap in professional
8 learning opportunities for early STEM education and continues to provide professional
9 development to hundreds of elementary and early childhood educators through "making and
10 tinkering" workshops, emphasizing creative thinking and problem-solving, innovation, and
11 workforce development skills; and
12 WHEREAS, Knock Knock Children's Museum survived the COVID-19 pandemic
13 despite being shut down for four hundred forty-seven days; and during the height of the
14 pandemic the museum continued to provide high-quality early learning experiences, bringing
15 the Knock Knock at Your Door initiative out into the community through learning kits,
16 virtual online livestream activities for children, and virtual professional development for
17 educators; and
18 WHEREAS, Knock Knock Children's Museum continues to fulfill its mission to be
19 a community spark for engaging playful learning experiences that inspire and support
20 lifelong learning, serving more than six hundred thousand children from birth through age
21 eight and their families, visitors from all sixty-four Louisiana parishes, and thousands of
22 visitors from other states and countries.
23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
24 does hereby recognize Thursday, June 1, 2023, as Knock Knock Children's Museum Day at
25 the state capitol.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does
27 hereby recognize the Knock Knock Children's Museum's pivotal role in advancing
28 Louisiana's early childhood educational, cultural, and economic development by providing
29 opportunities to learn, explore, and discover in its award-winning twenty-six thousand
30 square-foot facility.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
2 chairman of the board, Hunter Hines, and the executive director of the Knock Knock
3 Children's Museum.
