2023 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 158 BY SENATORS BOUDREAUX AND CORTEZ A RESOLUTION To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the passing of Elvina Broussard Chaisson, also known as "Tina" and "Ms. T-Nah". WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the Senate and the citizens of Louisiana have learned of the death of Elvina Broussard Chaisson on Monday, April 24, 2023, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette, Louisiana, at the age of one hundred; and WHEREAS, Elvina was born in Carencro, Louisiana, in 1923 to Carmouche Broussard and Cecile Sonnier Broussard; and WHEREAS, before marriage, Elvina lived with Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Heymann of Lafayette as a hostess and while living with the Heymann's she met and married Loveless Chaisson, and to their union five children were born, Wilbert, Gilfred, Betty, Marie, and Cedric; and WHEREAS, a devout Catholic, Elvina faithfully prayed the rosary daily and hosted weekly prayer sessions at her home; and WHEREAS, Elvina was a dual parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Scott, having been a member of the Ladies of Mary, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lafayette; she was also a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court 84 at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church in Duson; and WHEREAS, Elvina had many likes and talents which included cooking for her family and baking cakes and sweet dough pies that she was well known for in her community, gardening, and traveling on mission trips with her church; and WHEREAS, after being a faithful wife and homemaker, Elvina stepped into the workforce, a passionate caregiver and nurturer for over twenty-five years, devoting her Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 158 ENROLLED services to the Lafayette Council on Aging's "Foster Grandparent Program" where she performed her grandparent duties at Westside Elementary School in Scott for over twenty-five years; and WHEREAS, Elvina was blessed with many proud moments throughout her long life, however she was most proud of her grandchildren for pursuing careers as social workers, lawyers, and medical doctors; and WHEREAS, Elvina loved her family and friends unconditionally and was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend; a caregiver and nurturer in the true sense of the words, a matriarch, a rock, a queen, and an eternal source of strength and resilience in the finest sense; and WHEREAS, Elvina Broussard Chaisson was preceded in death by her parents, Carmouche and Cecile Sonnier Broussard; her husband, Loveless Chaisson; one daughter-in-law, Mary Lee Rudd Chaisson; one great-grandson, D'Anthony Francis; four brothers, Donaldville Broussard, Clifton Broussard (Audrey), Dudley Broussard (Ethel), Hubert Broussard (Thelma); and four sisters, Eva Thibeaux (Ernest), Vercy Dorion (Alfred), Ella Jolivette (Isadore) and Rita Broussard (Eldridge); and she is survived by her children, Wilbert Chaisson (Joanne), Gilfred Chaisson (Judy), Betty Bias (Ray), Marie Chaisson, and Cedric Chaisson (Bridget); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; godchildren, Anthony Broussard and Andrea Taylor; and a special niece/daughter, Joyce Thibeaux Strauss; and WHEREAS, the memory of Elvina Broussard Chaisson shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved her. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express condolences to the family and friends of Elvina Broussard Chaisson, and does hereby recognize that her life was well spent in service of her community, her family, and her God. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of Elvina Broussard Chaisson. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE Page 2 of 2
