SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 162
BY SENATOR SMITH 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends and congratulates the undefeated Destrehan High School
Fighting Wildcat football team upon winning the 2022 LHSAA Division I state
championship.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate the undefeated Destrehan High School Fighting Wildcat
3 football team upon winning the 2022 LHSAA Division I state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the Destrehan Fighting Wildcats have been a model of both excellence
5 and consistency over the last decade by advancing to either the semi-finals or the
6 championship game in eight of the last ten years; and
7 WHEREAS, the senior Wildcats advanced to the championship game as freshmen
8 and to the semi-finals as sophomores and juniors; and 
9 WHEREAS, this senior class led the rest of the Wildcats through an undefeated
10 season and were rewarded with a number three seed in the Division I Non-Select playoffs;
11 and
12 WHEREAS, with a remarkably explosive, yet consistent offense led by quarterback
13 Jai Eugene and a stifling defense, the Wildcats marched methodically through the playoffs;
14 and 
15 WHEREAS, upon reaching the championship game in the nearby Superdome, living
16 out every Louisiana high school football player's dream, the Wildcats were all set to confront
17 the number one seed Ruston Bearcats; and 
18 WHEREAS, the Wildcats proved they were up to the task and jumped out to an early

1 lead with a touchdown by running back Shane Lee; and
2 WHEREAS, in what became a defensive slugfest with the game tied at ten points
3 apiece with less than four minutes left in the game, Jai Eugene scored on a twenty-nine yard
4 touchdown run to put the Wildcats ahead; and
5 WHEREAS, while the Bearcats from Ruston did not go down without a fight with
6 two more opportunities to tie the game, the Wildcats from Destrehan rose to the occasion
7 with their defense ending both Ruston drives with interceptions by Andrew Schaefer and
8 Travon Thomas, respectively; and 
9 WHEREAS, the Wildcats could not have achieved this championship without the
10 leadership and guidance of their coaching staff, led by Head Coach Marcus Scott, who
11 earned his first state championship as well.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
13 does hereby commend and congratulate the undefeated Destrehan High School Fighting
14 Wildcat football team upon winning the 2022 LHSAA Division I state championship.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
16 Head Coach Marcus Scott.
