Recognizes that on June 14, 2023, the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary will commemorate the dedication of a building in honor of the esteemed Pastor Fred Luter. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend and congratulate Pastor Fred Luter Jr. on the dedication by the New Orleans 3 Baptist Theological Seminary of the student center building in his name. 4 WHEREAS, at a ceremony to be held on June 14, 2023, the New Orleans Baptist 5 Theological Seminary will be dedicating their student center building as the Fred Luter, Jr. 6 Student Center; and 7 WHEREAS, the Fred Luter, Jr. Student Center will be one of the first buildings 8 named for an African-American leader on a Southern Baptist Convention seminary campus; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, Pastor Fred Luter Jr. has been an exemplary leader, devoted servant, 11 and unwavering advocate for the Gospel of Jesus Christ; and 12 WHEREAS, throughout his ministry, Pastor Luter has consistently demonstrated 13 profound commitment to the New Orleans community, offering hope, healing, and spiritual 14 guidance to countless individuals; and 15 WHEREAS, Pastor Luter's leadership as the senior pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist 16 Church has been marked by his compassion, vision, and dedication to empowering others 17 to live transformed lives in Christ; and 18 WHEREAS, Pastor Fred Luter's impact extends far beyond the confines of his local Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 167 SLS 23RS-2270 ORIGINAL 1 congregation; he has played a pivotal role in fostering unity, reconciliation, and social justice 2 within the broader Christian community; and 3 WHEREAS, Pastor Luter has been a trailblazer, breaking barriers as the first 4 African-American president of the Southern Baptist Convention and using his platform to 5 champion diversity, inclusion, and racial harmony; and 6 WHEREAS, the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary recognizes the immense 7 contributions of Pastor Fred Luter Jr. and seeks to honor his legacy by dedicating a building 8 in his name, affirming his enduring impact on generations to come; and 9 WHEREAS, the dedication of the building stands as a testament to the profound 10 influence Pastor Luter has had on the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and the 11 wider Christian community; and 12 WHEREAS, it is the hope of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary that the 13 dedication serve as a reminder of the power of faith, the importance of leadership, and the 14 profound impact that one individual can make on the world, and that deepest gratitude and 15 heartfelt appreciation are extended to him for his tireless commitment to the Gospel and his 16 unyielding devotion to the Kingdom of God. 17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 18 does hereby commend Pastor Fred Luter Jr. for his selfless service, exemplary leadership, 19 and transformative impact on the lives of countless individuals; recognize his unwavering 20 faith, dedication, and love for his community that is hereby recorded for posterity; and 21 further congratulates him on the distinct honor of the naming of the Fred Luter, Jr. Student 22 Center on the campus of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 24 Pastor Fred Luter Jr. The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Celeste D.
