SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 180

A RESOLUTION
To proclaim June 5, 2023, as Louisiana Unclaimed Property Day in commemoration of the
fiftieth anniversary of the program.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Unclaimed Property Program was created pursuant to Act
146 of the 1972 Regular Session of the Legislature; and
WHEREAS, unclaimed property consists of abandoned financial assets, checking and
savings accounts, unpaid wages, securities, life insurance payouts, uncashed checks, and the
proceeds of safe deposit boxes that are without activity for a certain period of time; and
WHEREAS, money was first received into the unclaimed property program in
1973; and
WHEREAS, over the past fifty years, the Unclaimed Property Division in the State
Treasurer's office property program has issued 1.38 million unclaimed property checks,
totaling $727 million, to the rightful owners.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
hereby proclaims June 5, 2023, as Louisiana Unclaimed Property Day in commemoration
of the fiftieth anniversary of the program.
