BY SENATORS PEACOCK, ABRAHAM, ALLAIN, BARROW, BERNARD,
BOUDREAUX, BOUIE, CARTER, CATHEY, CLOUD, CONNICK,
CORTEZ, DUPLESSIS, FESI, FIELDS, HEWITT, JACKSON,

A RESOLUTION
To record for posterity the time duration of farewell speeches given by Senators and Senate
officers in the terms ending 2020 and 2024.
WHEREAS, Benjamin Franklin famously said, "Dost thou love life? Then do not
squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of"; and
WHEREAS, according to the Bard, William Shakespeare, "Time's glory is to calm
contending kings/ To unmask falsehood, and bring truth to light"; and
WHEREAS, time can be saved and spent, budgeted and wasted, invested and killed;
however, no person has the power to know his or her balance of time remaining or to acquire
more of it; and
WHEREAS, humanity has always longed for the ability to extend or change time;
however, we have neither Time-Turner nor TARDIS, no DeLorean with after-market parts,
no Pym Particles for access to the quantum realm, not even a most excellent Circle K phone
booth; all that is left for us to decide is what to do with the time that is given us; and
WHEREAS, in Psalms 90:12, the psalmist asks of God, "Teach us to number our
days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom"; and

formal farewell to colleagues and staff and to recognize and thank close friends and family
for the love and support that has buoyed that person throughout his or her legislative service.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
hereby records for posterity that each Senator and Senate officer listed hereinbelow did
invest the given measure of the finite time of his or her life to share wisdom gained in the
