2023 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 184 BY SENATORS PEACOCK, ABRAHAM, ALLAIN, BARROW, BERNARD, BOUDREAUX, BOUIE, CARTER, CATHEY, CLOUD, CONNICK, CORTEZ, DUPLESSIS, FESI, FIELDS, HEWITT, JACKSON, KLEINPETER, LAMBERT, LUNEAU, MILLIGAN, FRED MILLS, ROBERT MILLS, MIZELL, POPE, PRICE, REESE, SMITH, STINE, WHITE AND WOMACK A RESOLUTION To record for posterity the time duration of farewell speeches given by Senators and Senate officers in the terms ending 2020 and 2024. WHEREAS, Benjamin Franklin famously said, "Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of"; and WHEREAS, according to the Bard, William Shakespeare, "Time's glory is to calm contending kings/ To unmask falsehood, and bring truth to light"; and WHEREAS, time can be saved and spent, budgeted and wasted, invested and killed; however, no person has the power to know his or her balance of time remaining or to acquire more of it; and WHEREAS, humanity has always longed for the ability to extend or change time; however, we have neither Time-Turner nor TARDIS, no DeLorean with after-market parts, no Pym Particles for access to the quantum realm, not even a most excellent Circle K phone booth; all that is left for us to decide is what to do with the time that is given us; and WHEREAS, in Psalms 90:12, the psalmist asks of God, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom"; and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 184 ENROLLED WHEREAS, as each legislative term ends, every Senator and officer who will not be returning is provided an opportunity to address the body and invited guests, to bid a formal farewell to colleagues and staff and to recognize and thank close friends and family for the love and support that has buoyed that person throughout his or her legislative service.
