SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 186

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the two hundred thirty-fifth anniversary of the ratification
of the U.S. Constitution and the annual luncheon by the Shreveport Chapter of the Daughters
of the American Revolution.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the two hundred thirty-fifth anniversary of the ratification of the U.S.
3 Constitution and the annual luncheon by the Shreveport Chapter of the Daughters of
4 the American Revolution.
5 WHEREAS, September 17, 2023, marks the two hundred thirty-fifth anniversary of
6 the ratification of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional
7 Convention; and
8 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent
9 document and its memorable anniversary; and to the patriotic celebrations, including the
10 Shreveport Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, which will commemorate
11 the occasion; and
12 WHEREAS, on August 2, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued Public Law
13 915 guaranteeing the issuance of a proclamation, each year, by the President of the United
14 States of America designating September seventeenth through the twenty-third as
15 Constitution Week; and
16 WHEREAS, our citizens should reaffirm the ideals the framers of the Constitution
17 had by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed through this guardian of our liberties,
18 remembering that lost rights may never be regained; and

1 WHEREAS, there should always be reflection on the privilege of being an American
2 citizen with all the rights and responsibilities given; and 
3 WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States of America embodies the
4 principles of limited government in a republic dedicated to rule by law; and
5 WHEREAS, schools should read and study the Constitution and be taught its
6 principles, including federalism, checks and balances, separation of powers, popular
7 sovereignty, and the necessary and proper commerce and supremacy clauses; and
8 WHEREAS, the United States Constitution should be vigilantly protected; and
9 WHEREAS, all civic and fraternal organizations throughout the United States should
10 be encouraged to recognize this occasion with appropriate programs of teaching, serving, 
11 and celebrating; and
12 WHEREAS, this year's luncheon will be held on September 19, 2023, at Rose Park
13 Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana.
14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
15 does hereby commend the Shreveport Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution
16 on the annual observance of Constitution Week in Northwest Louisiana. 
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
18 Tammy Andrews, Daughters of the American Revolution.
