SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 36

COMMENDATIONS. Commends and congratulates the Northwood High School Gators
basketball team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division
IV State Championship.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate the Northwood High School Gators basketball team on
3 winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division IV State
4 Championship.
5 WHEREAS, the Northwood High School Gators won the 2023 Division IV state title
6 by handily defeating Lincoln Prep, 73-56, in the championship game at Burton Coliseum in
7 Lake Charles, Louisiana; and
8 WHEREAS, Northwood Head Coach Alan Tinsley perfectly prepared the Gators to
9 handle the pressure that comes when competing for a state championship; and
10 WHEREAS, senior Omarion "Diddy" Layssard ended his high school career with an
11 astounding performance in the championship game by scoring thirty-four points and
12 grabbing eleven rebounds; and
13 WHEREAS, Gators' rebounding also played a pivotal role in the championship game
14 by grabbing an impressive thirty-nine rebounds with twenty-one rebounds coming on the
15 offensive end; and
16 WHEREAS, the Northwood High School Gators basketball team is most deserving
17 of the highest recognition for its incredible accomplishments this season.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana

1 does hereby commend and congratulate the Northwood High School Gators basketball team
2 on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division IV State
3 Championship and hereby extends sincerest wishes to the team's coaches, players, and
4 training staff as they continue their incredible work and always strive for greatness.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be sent to the principal
6 of Northwood High School.
