SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 36

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate the Northwood High School Gators basketball team on
winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division IV State
Championship.
WHEREAS, the Northwood High School Gators won the 2023 Division IV state title
by handily defeating Lincoln Prep, 73-56, in the championship game at Burton Coliseum in
Lake Charles, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Northwood Head Coach Alan Tinsley perfectly prepared the Gators to
handle the pressure that comes when competing for a state championship; and
WHEREAS, senior Omarion "Diddy" Layssard ended his high school career with an
astounding performance in the championship game by scoring thirty-four points and
grabbing eleven rebounds; and
WHEREAS, Gators' rebounding also played a pivotal role in the championship game
by grabbing an impressive thirty-nine rebounds with twenty-one rebounds coming on the
offensive end; and
WHEREAS, the Northwood High School Gators basketball team is most deserving
of the highest recognition for its incredible accomplishments this season.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate the Northwood High School Gators basketball team
on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division IV State
Championship and hereby extends sincerest wishes to the team's coaches, players, and
training staff as they continue their incredible work and always strive for greatness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be sent to the principal
of Northwood High School.
