2023 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 42 BY SENATORS FIELDS, ABRAHAM, ALLAIN, BERNARD, BOUDREAUX, BOUIE, CARTER, CATHEY, CLOUD, CONNICK, CORTEZ, DUPLESSIS, FESI, FOIL, HARRIS, HENRY, HENSGENS, KLEINPETER, LAMBERT, LUNEAU, MCMATH, MILLIGAN, FRED MILLS, ROBERT MILLS, MIZELL, MORRIS, PEACOCK, POPE, PRICE, REESE, SMITH, STINE, TALBOT, WHITE AND WOMACK A RESOLUTION To designate Wednesday, April 26, 2023, as "University of Louisiana System Day at the Capitol" and commends the University of Louisiana System for its sustained contributions to the state. WHEREAS, the University of Louisiana System (UL System) is crucial for both Louisiana's academic and economic prosperity, thanks to its fundamental mission to emphasize teaching, research, and community outreach in order to improve the well-being of Louisiana's residents; and WHEREAS, composed of nine distinctly vital and geographically diverse member institutions, the UL System includes Grambling State University, Louisiana Tech University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Louisiana at Monroe, and the University of New Orleans; and WHEREAS, the UL System's nine member institutions have an exceptional combined enrollment of over ninety thousand highly motivated students, all of whom are fervently pursuing knowledge that will aid in augmenting the human experience; and WHEREAS, a broad and comprehensive education is offered by the UL System with an extensive array of disciplines, spanning from education, nursing, cybersecurity, and maritime studies to humanities, physical science, music, allied health, engineering, social studies, pharmacy, business administration, and public administration; and WHEREAS, to prevail in a twenty-first century economy, the UL System identifies five core competencies that guide its actions: communication competence, critical and creative problem solving, adaptable resilience, cultural competence, and self-reflective awareness; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 42 ENROLLED WHEREAS, annually, the UL System commemorates sixteen thousand five hundred alumni who have developed each core competency necessary for personal and professional achievement; and WHEREAS, the UL System faculty confers vast expertise and resources to build a top-tier knowledge base that is transferable to educational, professional, cultural, and economic enterprises, while solving economic, environmental, and social challenges; and WHEREAS, in the past four years, the researchers of the UL System have persistently made innovative strides resulting in one hundred twenty-one invention disclosures, seventy-five new patent applications, and produced ten licenses; and WHEREAS, the UL System serves as a significant economic driver in Louisiana with an annual economic impact of eleven point nine billion dollars, which supports one in every fifteen jobs in the state; and WHEREAS, worthy of continued investment, the University of Louisiana System is committed to creating the most educated generation in Louisiana's history. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Wednesday, April 26, 2023, as "University of Louisiana System Day at the Capitol" and commends the University of Louisiana System for its sustained contributions to the state. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the students, faculty, staff, and administrators of the nine member universities are lauded for their unwavering determination in utilizing exceptional qualities and offering exemplary educational opportunities for every citizen of Louisiana.
