COMMENDATIONS. Commends Jennifer Steel Bourgeois for being a guardian angel to
the Westbank of New Orleans.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Jennifer Steel Bourgeois for being a guardian angel to the Westbank of New
3 Orleans.
4 WHEREAS, Jennifer Steel Bourgeois is a native of the Westbank of New Orleans;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, a graduate of L.W. Higgins Touro Infirmary Nursing School, and
7 Louisiana State University New Orleans, Jennifer is a lifelong resident of Louisiana; and
8 WHEREAS, Jennifer has a God-given gift of writing skills; she was first published
9 at the age of 9 and continued writing through her nursing career with a published article on
10 the cover of the prestigious American Journal of Nursing; and
11 WHEREAS, Jennifer worked seventy-five days straight in the aftermath of Hurricane
12 Katrina as the Public Information Officer at West Jefferson Hospital; and
13 WHEREAS, Jennifer is a lifetime volunteer for nonprofits and schools; she has
14 served on several organizations, many times in leadership roles, including: PTA
15 organizations; parochial school boards; as president of the regional American Heart
16 Association Board; a board member of Jefferson Council on Aging; a board member of the
17 Jefferson Community Action Programs (JeffCAP); as a public member of the hearing
18 committee of the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board; Cuillier Career Center community

1 leader committee; as president of the Harvey Canal Industrial Association; Jefferson Parish
2 Workforce Development Board Executive Committee; Jefferson Parish Economic
3 Development Commission's (JEDCO) tourism subcommittee of the day; the Stroke Team
4 at WJMC; Community Outreach liaison of the Cancer Center at West Jeff; member of the
5 Citizens for a Clean and Beautiful Jefferson Parish Westbank; chair of Healthy Start of a
6 Healthy Future Committee; and a multi-decade rotarian with the Rotary Club of Westwego;
7 and
8 WHEREAS, Jennifer has been awarded the Louisiana Nursing Association's
9 Nightingale Award, the American Cancer Society's Spirit Award, Role Model by the Youth
10 Leadership Council, Community Activist by St. Elizabeth's Guild, Great 100 Nurses, and
11 Healthcare Hero; and
12 WHEREAS, Jennifer has a creative streak coupled with her nursing background and
13 a volunteer's heart; she continues to serve with the Westbank Business and Industry
14 Association, Stonebridge Property Owners Association in the Greater New Orleans Area,
15 LCMC Health System, Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), and Café
16 Hope; and
17 WHEREAS, Jennifer is a committed citizen who is uniquely skilled at literacy, health
18 awareness, and community service; she remains active in the community, dedicated to
19 improving overall welfare and quality of life; and
20 WHEREAS, being a community service activist and vessel for good, credit and
21 gratitude must be given to Jennifer for her skills and passion for serving the community.
22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
23 does hereby commend Jennifer Steel Bourgeois for being a guardian angel to the Westbank
24 of New Orleans and does recognize that her services have impacted people far beyond the
25 Westbank community.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
27 Jennifer Steel Bourgeois.
